Energy efficiency projects

The Dominican Republic relies on foreign imports of fossil fuels, which account for more than 80% of its energy sources, contributing to a persistent trade deficit. In addition, high generation costs, transmission and distribution losses, and unpaid electricity bills have resulted in a deficit in the energy sector.
In addition to supply-side measures such as the construction of new public power plants and the upgrading of the power grid, comprehensive improvements on the demand side are also needed to balance the supply-demand balance of electricity in the country, such as improving the efficiency of electricity use and raising consumer awareness.
This cooperation will promote energy conservation in the country’s public sector and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by converting existing streetlights to LED and installing new LED streetlights on public roads nationwide, thereby contributing to sustainable economic development, reducing the national budget deficit and current account deficit, and mitigating the effects of climate change.
