Call for projects eligible for grants under the “Solving Social Issues through Startups” program for fiscal 2022
As society undergoes drastic changes due to the spread of the new coronavirus, innovation is the key to the sustainable development of Kyoto’s economy and the creation of urban vitality, and startups that take on the challenge of solving social issues with innovative technologies and novel business ideas are the leaders of this innovation. The City of Kyoto and the Advanced Technology Research Institute of Kyoto (ASTRI) are calling for startups to take on the challenge of solving social issues in various fields such as the environment, energy, education, medical care, and culture, as follows
1 Outline of the application (For details, please refer to the application guideline, etc.)
(1) Subsidy recipients
Startups (small and medium-sized enterprises established less than 10 years ago)” that have their headquarters or business office or other business location in Kyoto City. However, the applicant must establish a business base in Kyoto City and register a corporation by October 3, 2022.
(2) Projects and expenses to be subsidized
The subsidy covers the cost of purchasing equipment, materials for prototypes, rent*1, direct labor costs*2, etc. for the development of new technologies and the construction of service systems that contribute to solving social issues in various fields such as the environment, energy, education, medicine, culture, etc., using innovative technologies and novel ideas. 1 The maximum amount of rent applied for is 10,000 yen per month. 2 Direct labor costs are limited only to those who are directly engaged in the execution of the subsidized project. The maximum amount applied for is 1/3 of the total amount applied for subsidies for “project expenses,” “outsourcing expenses,” and “rent.
(3) Subsidy amount, etc.
(a) Maximum subsidy amount: 1 million yen (2/3 of the total) (b) Expected number of adopted projects: about 10 * As a result of screening, the actual amount of subsidy may be less than the amount of the application.

From the date of notification of grant decision to February 28, 2023 (Tuesday)

Applications will not be accepted after 5:00 p.m. on the last day of application, so please be careful about the application schedule.
⑹ Notification of Examination Results, etc.
After the application period is over, we will review the projects eligible for the grant and send a notice of decision and a notice of rejection to each applicant.
Other
If any false statement or related documents are found, the grant decision will be cancelled or the subsidy will be returned. In this project, we will also accept consultations for setting up a business office in Kyoto City by introducing co-working spaces operated by the Advanced Technology Research Institute of Kyoto and Kyoto Research Park Corporation.
