The Government of Rwanda has made the promotion of rural development a priority as a pillar of its integrated development planning, implementation management, and economic growth. Reliable, large-scale digital topographic maps are an indispensable source of basic information needed to implement development plans for the improvement of urban infrastructure and social services, and there is an urgent need to create and provide such maps to relevant agencies. This cooperation aims to develop large scale digital topographic maps and orthophotos (orthophotos) in the capital city of Kigali, to strengthen the capacity of related institutions to create digital topographic maps, and to develop large scale digital topographic maps and GIS (Geographic Information System) based road registers based on the topographic maps in the region. The project will also contribute to future urban planning, infrastructure development, and maintenance in the region by developing large scale digital topographic maps and a GIS (Geographic Information System)-based road ledger based on the topographic maps.
