Kyoto City: Forest of Mountain Village-Urban Exchange Event Information (Beginner Trekking, Hacchodaira Nature Observation (Spring))

Mountain Village Urban Exchange Forest (Tel: 746-0439)

Kyoto City Industrial Tourism Bureau (Intermediary: Forestry Promotion Division Tel: 222-3346)

The Forest of Mountain Village-Urban Exchange provides a place where residents of mountain villages and cities can interact through nature observation and recreational activities, taking advantage of the rich nature and mountain village culture in the Hanaseki area of Sakyo Ward. We are pleased to announce that the following spring events will be held at the forest.

beginner trekking

1 Date

Sunday, May 22, 2022, meet at 9:00 a.m. from Exit 1 of Keage Station on the Subway Tozai Line and disperse around 2:00 p.m. at Ginkakuji-michi bus stop on the Kyoto City Bus.

2 Contents

Daimonji, famous for the Gozan no Okuribi (Bonfire on Five Mountains)! The route will be about 6 km long, which is easy for first-time climbers. From the top of the mountain and the fire bed, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city.

3 Capacity

30 persons (elementary school students and older, junior high school students and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)

4 Participation fees

General 2,000 yen Elementary school students 1,500 yen (with lunch box) *Please pay in cash on the day.

Hacchodaira Nature Walk (Spring)

1 Date

June 5, 2022 (Sunday) Meet at 9:00 a.m. from Exit 1 of Kokusaikaikaikan Station on the Karasuma Subway Line and disperse around 4:00 p.m.

2 Contents

Hacchodaira is a rare high moor in the Kinki region, and is home to rare plants, wild birds, and wild plants such as black bears and Japanese serow deer. We will have a nature observation at Hacchodaira with Mr. Matsutani, the Honorary Extension of Kyoto Botanical Garden, as a lecturer.

3 Capacity

30 persons (Elementary school students and older, junior high school students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)

4 Participation fees

5,000 yen (including box lunch) *Please pay in cash on the day of the event.

What to prepare

Clothing for hiking (long sleeves, backpack, comfortable shoes, hat, etc.) ・Rain gear (please prepare for sudden rain even if it is sunny) ・Drinks ・Preventive supplies for infectious diseases (masks, disinfectants, etc.)

How to apply for the event

Please send a postcard, fax, e-mail, or website with the name of the event and the addresses, names, ages, and telephone numbers of all participants to the Forest of Mountain Village-Urban Exchange.

Beginner trekking until Sunday, May 8 Hacchodaira nature walk (spring) until Sunday, May 22

precautions

(1) If there are too many applications, a drawing will be held. The result of the lottery will be notified to all applicants by the Forest of Mountain Village-Urban Exchange.

(2) In case of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled. In case of cancellation due to inclement weather, a decision will be made 2 hours prior to the meeting time on the day of the event, so please check the website of the Forest of Mountain Village-Urban Exchange or call the office.

(3) The tour may be canceled or its contents may be changed depending on the situation of new coronavirus infection. In such cases, information will be posted on the website of the Forest of Mountain Village-Urban Interchange.

(4) The itinerary and contents of the tour may be subject to change due to weather, avoidance of congestion, or other circumstances.
