Shurijo Park is selling original “Gojo-in” seals and “Gojo-in book” as souvenirs of visiting the castle at Museum Shop Kyuyo (in the toll area of Shurijo Park). The “Gojoin” is priced at 600 yen and the “Gojoin Book” at 2,750 yen.
The title of the seal is based on the calligraphy of King Shoiku (the 18th king of the second Sho dynasty), who was known for his love of calligraphy. The seal is a reproduction of the official seal of the Shuri Royal Office, the governing body of the Kingdom of Ryukyu.
The color of the main hall is inspired by the color of the Kushimakiriben pattern that will be used in the restoration of 2025. The base paper is made of mitsumata paper, a type of Ryukyu paper. The first 1,600 copies sold will be designed with a logo commemorating the 50th anniversary of Okinawa’s reversion to mainland Japan.
The cover design of the Goshoinchou book uses the “Phoenix” and “Peony” patterns from the “Ramie White Ground Phoenix and Fan Peony Pattern Double-Sided Bingata Single-Children’s Costume (Chomashiroji Hououou and Oogibotan Monyou Ryoumen Bingata Hitoe Kodomo Iishou)” Bingata that has been handed down from the Ryukyu Kingdom period.
