Sumitomo Mitsui Card, Visa Worldwide Japan, Nippon Signal, and QUADRAC will conduct a demonstration experiment on May 31, 2012 at the Fukuoka City Subway, using “stera transit,” a public transportation solution provided by Sumitomo Mitsui Card, to demonstrate the use of Visa’s touch payment system to pass through an integrated ticket gate. The experiment will start on May 31.
Automatic ticket gates that can be used for both transportation system IC and touch payment have been installed at some Fukuoka City Subway stations. Customers can use their own cards with touch-sensitive payment functions without purchasing or recharging in advance.
The stations to be served are Fukuoka Airport, Higashi Hie, Hakata, Gion, Nakasu Kawabata, Tenjin, and Gofukumachi, and the period is scheduled to last until February 28, 2023.
