The total number of people infected with the new strain of coronavirus in Malawi is 34,390 (1,157 deaths) (as of June 7, 2021, according to the country’s Ministry of Health). The country has positioned vaccination as the top priority in the fight against novel coronaviruses, and has begun procurement of vaccines and vaccination of priority recipients.
Although training for health care workers for vaccination and provision of personal protective equipment are progressing with the support of aid agencies, vaccination is not progressing as planned due to a lack of cold chain* equipment and vaccine storage facilities for proper transport and storage of vaccines at the local level, and the establishment of a system for vaccination and effectiveness verification is an urgent issue. This cooperation will establish an effective and safe vaccination system in Malawi by providing the relevant equipment required for vaccination, thereby contributing to the improvement of the vaccination coverage in the country and the early containment of new coronavirus infections.
