JICA Vice President Junichi Yamada met with the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Pham Binh Minh, in Tokyo on May 27.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vice President Yamada noted that First Deputy Prime Minister Minh, who spoke at the 27th International Exchange Conference “The Future of Asia” on May 26, said that trade, investment, and supply chains are important for economic normalization and that bilateral and multilateral cooperation is necessary for this purpose. He also stated that JICA would like to cooperate as much as possible to promote Vietnam’s robust and inclusive growth.
In response, First Deputy Prime Minister Minh said that Japan is the largest ODA donor to Vietnam and that Japan’s ODA is important to Vietnam, and that both sides would like to resolve issues to further strengthen Japan-Vietnam relations and to make effective use of ODA resources. Vice President Yamada responded that JICA would like to continue to strengthen its support to Vietnam based on the good Japan-Vietnam relations. The two sides had a frank exchange of views on cooperation for the sustainable development of Vietnam and challenges in implementing projects.
JICA will continue to provide cooperation to Vietnam in three main areas: enhancing growth and competitiveness, addressing vulnerabilities such as the environment and climate change countermeasures, and strengthening governance.
