Skymark Airlines launched its specially-painted “Pikachu Jet BC2” (No. 2) on May 30. The aircraft is a Boeing 737-800 (registration code: JA73NG), and will mainly operate on routes to and from Naha (Okinawa) and Shimojijima (Miyako). The aircraft will be in service for approximately five years.
The Pikachu Jet BC1 (No. 1), which has been in operation since June 2021, has carried approximately 150,000 passengers to various destinations to date, and the addition of the No. 2 aircraft will allow more passengers to board the Pikachu Jet.
The first flight of the Pikachu Jet BC2 was SKY519 (departing from Haneda at 15:35) on the Haneda – Naha route, and before the flight, the aircraft was shown to the press in the hangar. The main character of the second model is “Hoel-O,” which is blue in color to resemble the ocean. Pikachu, Shaymin, Koiking, and Sunnygo are also lively depicted on the side of the aircraft. In addition, Tatsuo and Yowashi are hidden on the underside of the aircraft, adding a playful touch.
After the unveiling, the aircraft underwent departure maintenance and took off for Naha at 15:57 as flight SKY519. The flight was almost fully booked, partly because people were looking forward to the first flight of the Pikachu Jet BC2 and partly because the number of people infected with the new coronavirus has been decreasing.
Pikachu also greeted the passengers in the pre-departure announcement, saying “Pika Pika, Pikachu, Pikachu ……” (translation: “I look forward to traveling in the sky with you all”). After takeoff, Kit Kat with an original design was handed out on the plane, and special paper cups were used for drinks.
Of course, the aprons worn by the CAs (flight attendants) were also decorated with Pokemon designs. Children were provided with gifts such as coloring books. In addition, “Pikachu Jet BC2 Commemorative Medal” and “Pikachu Jet BC2 Mini Pouch” were available for purchase on board.
And since Pokemon-spec tractors and towing cars are in operation around the Skymark ramp at Naha Airport, we encourage you to look outside when departing or arriving. You will be able to feel the spirit of the “Sora tobu Pikachu Project,” which aims to energize the airline and travel industries with the power of Pokemon.
