In the Outdoor Shirahama Shirahama Coast, a glamping facility operated by OUTDOOR TRIP, opened on May 21 on the Shihara Coast in Shirahama Town, Wakayama Prefecture. The recent Corona disaster has increased the popularity of the outdoors as a non-contact leisure activity. Camping, in particular, is extremely popular, and on weekends, all campgrounds are booked to the brim. On the other hand, many people are hesitant to try glamping because of the high cost of camping equipment and the time and effort required for preparation. Glamping, on the other hand, has been attracting attention in recent years as a casual and comfortable way to enjoy the outdoors without the need for expensive camping equipment and without the hassle of setting up a tent and preparing meals. The glamping facility “In the Outdoor Shirahama-Shibara Beach” is the first of its kind in the Kansai region, and is located in Yoshino Kumano National Park, a national park. This area was recognized as a Japan Geopark in August 2014 as the Nanki-Kumano Geopark, and is a popular spot where visitors can experience the greatness of the earth that is beyond human understanding. This time, in the unstable weather before the onset of the rainy season, I immediately went to experience this newly built glamping facility. The weather is the biggest bane of outdoor recreation. The weather can be unpredictable, and when it rains, your activities are limited to the extent possible. But that is glamping. Even if it rains, you can still have fun, so we hope you will find this information useful during the rainy season.
In the Outdoor Shirahama Shihara Beach First, we will go to Shihara Beach in Shirahama Town. It takes about two and a half hours from Osaka by car via the Hanwa Expressway. It takes about 30 minutes from Nanki Shirahama Airport by car, so it is easy to access from the Kanto area if you use a rental car. The site is located a few minutes from the Shihara Kaigan Roadside Station, a short distance from National Route 42. There are no signs along the national highway to guide visitors to the facility, and the road is narrow, making it somewhat difficult to find. Relying on the landmarks we had studied beforehand, we turned off the national highway and climbed up a narrow path to reach the place. At the end of the path, there is an open space, and the longhouse, which is also the administration building, jumps into view. The parking space is spacious and ample. Check-in starts at 3:00 p.m., and we first checked in at the reception desk. After receiving instructions and explanations about the use of the facilities, we were given a basket full of welcome snacks (?), not welcome drinks (?). In addition, a basket full of welcome sweets (?) was given to me. In addition, a variety of amenity goods are provided, which is a nice touch.
Full facilities for wheelchair users After checking in, you will be transferred to the site you will be using. First, let’s take a look at the facility as a whole. In the Outdoor Shirahama Shirahama Shihara Beach” offers five types of rooms. This time we stayed in a cottage with a private garden called “Private Cabin with NORN. In addition, there is the “Venaheim Glamping Deluxe Suite,” a tent type that can accommodate a large group of 6 to 16 people; the “Glamping Tent Suite Double,” also a tent type that can accommodate 3 to 8 people; the “Glamping Tent Suite,” which can accommodate 2 to 4 people; and the “Glamping Tent Suite,” which is a tent type that can accommodate 3 to 8 people and is designed by outdoor brand The “Sumibako by snow peak” is a collaboration between the outdoor brand “snow peak” and architect Kengo Kuma. The “Private Cabin with NORN” is wheelchair-accessible. A concrete pathway is provided for easy wheelchair access once you get out of the car. There is also a gentle ramp to the cabin, which allows wheelchair access to the interior of the cabin. The front of the cabin is made of glass, giving it a sense of openness. The furnishings inside the cabins are simple in design, giving the impression of cleanliness. This time, we were able to take a special tour of the inside of the glamping tent suite. The glamping tent suite is the standard room type at “In the Outdoor Shirahama Shihara Beach” and can accommodate 2 to 4 people. Like the private cabins, this one is simple and clean. The tent sites have the charm of condensed private space that cabins do not. Also of interest, although unfortunately we were unable to see it this time, is the “Sumibako by snow peak,” a wooden trailer house concept. This is also a different kind of fun from tents and cabins. In addition to the longhouse with reception and three types of accommodations, there is a sanitary building in the center of the site. One of the three shower rooms is wheelchair-accessible and a bit spacious for wheelchair users. The distance from the wheelchair-accessible cabin to the sanitary building is only a few dozen meters, but unfortunately it is not paved, so depending on the type of tires on your wheelchair, it may be difficult to get around on your own. The wheelchair-accessible shower room is barrier-free and there are no steps, but there are no handrails, etc., and there is no emergency button in case you fall in the shower room and need to call for help from inside.
Outdoor cooking is one of the most enjoyable outdoor leisure activities. One of the pleasures of camping is outdoor cooking. However, preparing the ingredients and cooking in a limited space is a lot of work. While this is one of the best parts of outdoor cooking, glamping allows you to easily enjoy outdoor cooking by professional chefs that you would not be able to cook by yourself, without the hassle. At “In the Outdoor Shirahama Shirahama Shihara Beach,” professional chefs prepare the food right up to the final cooking stage so that you can experience the true joy of outdoor cooking. All we have to do is grill the food ourselves, and we can enjoy the fun and professional taste of outdoor cooking. In the refrigerator located in the cabin, there are five pre-prepared dishes for dinner and two for breakfast the next day. All recipes are prepared using local ingredients. The cooking itself is not difficult; all you have to do is to cook the dishes as described in the menu. The time allotment is also precisely described, so anyone can cook delicious dishes without making mistakes. When I opened the refrigerator and looked at the food before cooking, I honestly wondered if the quantity was too small. I thought it might not be enough, but it turned out to be more than enough. Local craft beer and food made with local ingredients. It was a happy time for me.
