International Emergency Relief Aid for Earthquake Damage in Eastern Afghanistan -Delivery of Donated Goods
Emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for earthquake damage in eastern Afghanistan have been handed over to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) operating in the country.
Emergency relief supplies to be provided to the affected people through IFRC arrived in Kabul on June 26. On the following day, June 27, at 9:00 a.m. (local time), a handover ceremony was held online, attended by Mr. Nasefer Muhandi (IFRC Representative to Afghanistan) and Mr. Raad Al-Hadid (Afghanistan Office Operations Manager) from the IFRC side and Ambassador Takashi Okada, Ambassador of Japan to Afghanistan, Mr. Sei Amada, JICA Afghanistan Office Director The ceremony was attended by Mr. Takashi Okada, Ambassador of Japan to Afghanistan, Mr. Sei Amada, Director of JICA Afghanistan Office, and others.
At the handover ceremony, Mr. Muhammadi expressed his deep appreciation for Japan’s prompt assistance, and stated that the goods were on their way to the devastated areas in Khost and Paktika Provinces, and would be distributed to the victims as soon as possible. In response, Ambassador Okada expressed his condolences to the victims of the earthquake and his hope that the damage will be contained as soon as possible. Mr. Amada also expressed his respect for those who are providing assistance in the affected areas and hoped that the supplies would help alleviate the difficulties faced by the victims.
The relief supplies will be delivered to the victims by the IFRC and the Afghan Red Crescent Society.
