The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) with the Government of the Republic of Peru in Lima on June 27 for up to US$45 million for the Solid Waste Management Project (Phase 2).
This project will contribute to improving Peru’s environment by improving the integrated waste treatment and management capacity in 18 regional cities in Peru where sanitary landfills have been constructed through the Solid Waste Management Project (ongoing since 2012) by closing open dumping sites that were previously in use. The project will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goals 11 (Create Livable Communities), 12 (Responsibility to Create and Produce), and 13 (Take Concrete Action on Climate Change).
