Ikaros Publishing will release Vol. 64 of “Shinkansen EX (Explorer),” Japan’s only magazine specializing in high-speed railroads, on July 21.

Starting with Vol. 64, the contents have been completely revamped under the motto “more in-depth and detailed. In addition to the 16-page expansion, the number of articles was greatly increased by replacing the advertisement page with a planning page. In addition, the magazine’s coverage has been strengthened, resulting in a more specialized structure.

Vol. 64 features the West Kyushu Shinkansen, scheduled to open on September 23, with the full cooperation of the Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency (JRTT), the main contractor, and JR Kyushu, the main operator. The article explains the West Kyushu Shinkansen Line, focusing not only on the parts that passengers will see, such as rolling stock and stations, but also on the supporting infrastructure, such as tracks and civil engineering structures.

In addition, the report delves into the Shinkansen system in total, including systems not covered in other railroad magazines, such as the new Hosaka maintenance base on the Sanyo Shinkansen, a report on the nighttime construction of the Tokaido Shinkansen’s electrical system (high power line), and the mechanism of the Mars system.

In conjunction with the renewal of “Shinkansen EX (Explorer),” a magazine specializing in Shinkansen for children, “Mezase! Shinkansen Doctor” will be published four times a year (spring, summer, fall, and winter issues). The first issue is scheduled to go on sale at the end of August.

*The cover and contents of “Mezase! The cover and contents of “Shinkansen Doctor 01” are provisional.
