JR East Japan and JR East Japan View Tourism & Sales will operate a special night train, Yoso Kairi, using the Kairi, which debuted in October 2019 as a “fun train to ride”. In advance of this, the company has begun accepting reservations on the “Travel in Japan, Travel by Rail” website.
Departure dates are August 16 and 17. The capacity is for 30 passengers in Car 1 (reclining seats), 32 passengers in Car 2 (compartment seats), and 12 passengers in Car 4 (dining), and the fare is 30,000 yen (20,000 yen for children) for Car 1, 32,000 yen (22,000 yen for children) for Car 2, and 32,000 yen (22,000 yen) for Car 4.
This is the first time the train will operate between Niigata and Aomori. Onboard the train, passengers will be provided with nighttime meals and original amenities to help them nap. A special boxed lunch from Niigata ryotei restaurant “Isshime” will be served on the train from Niigata Station to Aomori Station, and “Tsugaru zukushi bento” and sweets “Yakkoi sable and Aomori apple caramel” will be served on the train from Aomori Station to Niigata Station. In addition, original eye masks and earplugs will be distributed to help passengers take a nap in the train.
