NEXCO East Japan and DOCOMO conduct “AI Traffic Jam Prediction” verification experiment on Keiyo Road as well.

Posted on 2022-07-292022-07-29 by News Admin

NEXCO East Japan and NTT DOCOMO will start a demonstration experiment of “AI Traffic Jam Prediction” on Keiyo Road on July 28, which has been conducted on Tokyo Aqualine and Kan-Etsu Expressway.

AI Traffic Jam Prediction is a service that predicts travel times and traffic demand for the day and distributes them to drivers based on real-time demographic statistics generated from DOCOMO’s cell phone network and NEXCO East Japan’s historical data on traffic volume, congestion, rules, etc.

The Keiyo Expressway is one of the most congested roads in NEXCO East Japan’s service area, but it has been difficult to forecast traffic congestion due to the complex changes in traffic conditions caused by different user characteristics between weekdays and holidays. However, by extending the “AI Traffic Jam Prediction” technology provided for the Aqua-Line and Kan-Etsu Expressway, the company has established a technology that can predict traffic demand even on the complex Keiyo Road.

In addition, DOCOMO’s newly developed technology speeds up the process from creation of demographic data to forecasting by AI and distribution of forecast information, and brings forward the time of forecast distribution from 14:00 to 13:00 by one hour.
