International Emergency Assistance for Earthquake Relief in the Republic of the Philippines -Delivery of Donated Goods
Emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for earthquake damage in the province of Abra in the northern part of the Republic of the Philippines have been delivered to the country.
Emergency relief supplies for the Republic of the Philippines arrived in Manila on August 2. A handover ceremony was held at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at 9:00 a.m. (local time) on the same day, attended by Mr. Hesús Domingo, Undersecretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Romer López, Assistant Secretary of Social Welfare and Development from the Philippine side, and Mr. Kazuhiko Koshikawa, Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines, Mr. Takeigo Sakamoto, JICA Office Director in the Philippines, and others from Japan.
At the handover ceremony, Assistant Secretary Lopez expressed his deep appreciation for the solid friendship between Japan and the Philippines, and his strong intention to promptly deliver the goods that arrived to the affected areas.
In response, Ambassador Koshikawa expressed his hope that the relief supplies would ease the burden of the disaster victims and that Japan would continue to cooperate, especially in the field of disaster management. Mr. Sakamoto, Director of JICA’s Philippine Office, expressed that the Japanese people sincerely wish for the safety of their friends in the Philippines, and that the relief supplies are an expression of this wish.
The relief supplies provided this time will be delivered to the victims by the government of the country.
