Tokyo Metro Provides Information on How to Use Emergency Equipment on In-train Displays

Posted on 2022-08-172022-08-17 by News Admin

Tokyo Metro has begun showing emergency equipment information videos in the event of an in-train emergency on in-train displays on all nine of its lines (only in vehicles equipped with such displays) and elsewhere.

To prepare for emergencies in stations and onboard trains, the company has been strengthening patrols and security and installing in-train security cameras in all of its trains.

Based on the “Guidelines for the Indication of In-train Emergency Equipment” (released in June 2022) by the Technical Standards Study Group of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the new video guidance system will help passengers better understand the location, use and precautions of the emergency open button, emergency alarm, and emergency door cock on platform doors. The new video guidance will be shown on the in-train displays. The information will be shown on in-train displays and on some displays at ticket gates in stations.

Based on the guidelines, the company will also work to standardize easy-to-understand displays using pictograms for all trains. The company plans to gradually switch over to the use of pictograms on all Tokyo Metro trains and platform doors by the end of fiscal year 2022.
