The 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8)

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will seize the opportunity of The Eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8), to be held in Tunisia from August 27 to 28 this month, to discuss the state of African development under the complex crises with domestic and international partners. We will host 24 online side events over the five-day period from Monday, August 22 to Friday, August 26 to discuss the state of African development under the complex crises together with domestic and international partners. Japanese and African government officials, business leaders, international organizations, and researchers will take the stage to discuss future cooperation in Africa.

The Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) is an international conference led by the Japanese government and has been held continuously for over a quarter of a century since the first conference was held in Tokyo in 1993 under the theme of African development. TICAD 8 will be held in Africa for the second time since TICAD VI was first held in Africa (Kenya) in 2016, and will discuss various issues for Africa to recover from the complex crises of the Corona disaster, the Ukraine crisis, climate change, and debt problems, and to make progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is expected that various issues will be discussed in order for Africa to recover from the complex crises of the Corona disaster, the Ukraine crisis, climate change, and debt problems, and to make progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Based on the discussions at TICAD 8, JICA will strengthen its efforts to build a strong and inclusive African social economy.
