De Agostini Japan will begin selling the bi-weekly “Rolling Stock Metal Model Collection” on September 27. The price is 2,990 yen for the first issue and 6,980 yen for the second and subsequent issues.
The collection includes a high quality die-cast model in 1/87 scale for reproducibility and a magazine explaining the vehicle’s history and appeal. Each model is housed in a special pedestal and case, and every detail has been thoroughly reproduced.
The timeless lineup includes everything from the flowery expresses of yesteryear to steam locomotives and Shinkansen bullet trains. The 1/87 scale “HO” size, familiar to model train collectors around the world, has been adopted. The lead car of each train will be reproduced in big scale, with overall lengths ranging from approximately 28 cm to 34 cm.
The model was accurately created based on design drawings and actual vehicle interviews under the cooperation and supervision of the JR companies. The model and year were selected after a thorough review by experts. The body is die-cast and the details are made of plastic. The pantograph, bogie, driver’s seat, and passenger compartment structure are reproduced, as well as the head mark, directional curtain, and model number.
