At a press conference held on August 24, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced the direction of new measures related to new coronavirus infection, including the conditional exemption of negative certification prior to entry into Japan starting September 7.
At the press conference, Prime Minister Kishida stated, “First, with regard to the pre-departure inspection upon return to Japan, which has been inconvenient for travelers from Japan to overseas, we will allow the use of proof of vaccination in place of a negative test within 72 hours from September 7. The new system will be effective for the first time in the year ending March 31, 2013.
Regarding the control of the total number of people entering the country, for which an upper limit of 20,000 people per day has been set, the government has stated that it will “proceed with the development of the quarantine system and promptly announce the situation, taking into account the infection situation.
