The state of Tamil Nadu, located in southeastern India, is one of the most urbanized states in the country. While these urban areas contribute 70 percent to the state’s GDP, the water and sewage network has not kept pace with the growing urban population, with 157 small and medium-sized municipalities in the state failing to supply the state’s water supply target and only 11 cities having sewage treatment facilities. This has led to deterioration of the sanitation environment. This cooperation provided long-term funding through the Tamil Nadu Urban Development Fund for the construction of water supply and sewage facilities in rural cities in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, thereby contributing to the economic development of rural cities and improvement of the living environment of local residents by providing water and sewage services to these cities with growing populations.
