On August 23, during his visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, JICA Vice President Junichi Yamada met with the country’s First Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh.
At the beginning of the meeting, both sides were pleased to meet again for the first time since May 2022, and First Deputy Prime Minister Minh expressed his gratitude for Japan’s ODA cooperation to date for Vietnam’s socio-economic development.
In response, Vice President Yamada proposed Japan’s possible contributions in the future, such as infrastructure development and strengthening of the financial base, which will be even more important for Vietnam’s sustainable growth, and expressed his expectations for further strengthening the relationship between the two countries through such cooperation. The two sides confirmed that both Japan and Vietnam will work closely together to further promote ongoing projects.
First Deputy Prime Minister Minh expressed his appreciation for JICA’s proposal and expressed his willingness to discuss within the government the commercialization of specific ODA projects, as Japanese ODA is indispensable for Vietnam’s development. In addition, he expressed his hope to promote Vietnam-Japan cooperation in various fields, including ODA, and to further develop cooperative relations with JICA.
