In Morocco, sewerage infrastructure facilities have been well developed in large cities such as Rabat and Casablanca in response to rapid population growth and urbanization, but many small and medium-sized cities were noticeably lagging behind. As a result, existing sewage systems were not functioning adequately, and large amounts of untreated sewage were being discharged into rivers and other bodies of water, causing serious environmental pollution. Residents living downstream who use river water for agriculture and domestic use are at risk of health hazards, while those in areas with low ground levels face flooding damage during heavy rains due to inadequate rainwater drainage facilities. In this cooperation, we constructed sewerage systems in small and medium-sized cities in Morocco, promoting the spread of sewerage systems and contributing to the improvement of sanitary conditions and living environments in these areas.
