JR East: NFC tags “station stamps” installed on the Yamanote Line and more

Posted on 2022-09-142022-09-15 by Editor in Chief

East Japan Railway Company (JR East) will conduct a demonstration experiment to digitize “station stamps” installed at all 78 stations, mainly at 30 stations on the Yamanote Line, using NFC. The period is from September 15 at 10:00 to January 5, 2023.

By touching the NFC tag on the stamp stand at each station with a smartphone, visitors can obtain a digital version of the station stamp. The digital stamps can be superimposed on photos and shared on SNS, allowing visitors to enjoy an experience that only digital technology can provide. iPhone users can also collect stamps in the form of a ledger in the “NFC Farms” application for the demonstration experiment, and receive a limited secret stamp for every 10, 40, or 78 stamps they collect.

The demonstration experiment will analyze the relationship between the participation-type events and train usage based on the history of stamp acquisition by NFC tags and the history of Suica usage registered in the demonstration experiment application.
