Rakuten Insight released the results of its “Travel Survey”.

From August 17 to 18, 1,000 male and female Rakuten Insight registered monitors, aged 20 to 69, were surveyed about their travel status from July 1 to August 18 and their travel plans during the Silver Week.

As a result, one in four respondents will go on a “domestic trip with overnight stay” in the summer of 2022. In “Sightseeing and leisure (excluding overnight trips and return trips),” “Shopping centers/malls” topped the list at more than 30%. In terms of what has become more important compared to before Corona, the top choice for both “domestic travel with overnight stays” and “sightseeing/leisure (excluding overnight trips and returning home)” was “a location where density can be avoided,” at 70%. Regarding their intentions for future travel, returning home, and sightseeing/leisure, the top response was “I want to go to the same places as before the new coronavirus epidemic.

The most common accompanying persons for “domestic travel involving overnight stays” and “sightseeing/leisure (excluding overnight trips and return trips home)” undertaken in summer were “family (with children, parents or relatives),” followed by “family (married couple only)” and “one person. The average amount spent on lodging increased as the age of the respondents increased. In addition, many respondents decreased their personal spending on both “domestic travel involving overnight stays” and “sightseeing/leisure (excluding overnight trips and return trips)” compared to pre-2019 (pre-Corona).
