JR East Urban Development Corporation will begin accepting applications for its new CHARICO electric bicycle rental service area with dedicated bicycle parking on September 26.
CHARICO is a subscriber service for electrically power assisted bicycles equipped with a rear child seat (so-called “child-carrying electrically power assisted bicycles”), which includes a vehicle, non-life insurance, and bicycle parking in front of stations for a set monthly fee. In addition to the existing stations of Nishi Ogikubo, Akabane, Musashikosugi, and Musashishinjo, the new stations are Asagaya, Minami Senju, Hodogaya, Musashiurawa, and Nakaurawa (10 to 30 bicycles at each location). Fees vary by station, but range from 7,700 to 8,800 yen per month (6,600 to 7,700 yen per month for annual contracts). The fee also includes manufacturer maintenance twice a year.
The company explains that the service offers the following advantages: no initial cost, one-month rental, and insurance coverage. The CHARICO website introduces Yamaha’s PAS Babby un SP (Model 21) and PAS Kiss mini un SP (Model 21) as rental vehicles.
