On September 30, Navitime Japan began offering flood-prone areas and hazard maps on its Car Navi Time car navigation application.
The “Flooding Precaution Points” function allows users to check approximately 3,600 locations across Japan that may be flooded by heavy rainfall or other causes on a hazard map. By tapping the icon, you can also check the names of locations such as under the guard at Shibuya Station and the underpass under Meguro Street.
The hazard map covers seven types of disasters: floods, mudslides, landslides, landslides, storm surges, tsunamis, and avalanches. The Hazard Map button is linked to real-time warnings, and alerts are issued when a special rainfall warning, heavy rainfall warning, flood warning, storm surge warning, heavy rainfall advisory, flood warning, or storm surge advisory is issued.
Since August 2021, the app has provided an audible warning when approaching flood-prone areas along the route, and with the addition of this new function, users can now check the flood-prone areas before departure.
