Taito City, Tokyo, will hold a commemorative project from January to December 2023 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Shotaro Ikenami, a local author of historical novels.
Shotaro Ikenami was born in January 1923 in what is now Taito-ku, Tokyo, and spent his childhood in Asakusa and Ueno. He left behind many works, including “Onihei Hankacho,” “Kenkaku Shobai,” and “Umeyasu Fujieda,” which were based on his hometown of downtown Edo.
This year-long commemorative project will widely promote his achievements and the appeal of his works through special exhibitions, lectures, events, and the sale of commemorative goods. In addition, information boards (scheduled to be placed at 16 locations) in the district will be installed in the motif of Edo Period “Takafuda,” introducing each area along with the scenes and backgrounds of his works.
