JR West has announced the train design of a new type of train (Series 273 Limited Express DC Train), which is scheduled to be introduced to the “Yakumo” limited express train connecting the San’in and San’yo areas in the spring of 2024 or later.
The design concept is “a car body that echoes the scenery along the train line and reflects nature, and a space where you can relax as if you were at home in the San-in region. The green car has a bright and expansive yellow base with a “Sekiseki Tortoise Shell” pattern, which is an image of the shell of a tortoise, a symbol of wealth, to represent the culture and climate of Sanyin, where many legends and place names are associated with tortoises.
The standard car has a green base color, inspired by the mountains along the route, with a “hemp leaf” design, which has been used in Shinto rituals since ancient times to protect people and ward off evil spirits. The group seats have a seating configuration that allows passengers to enjoy the train windows through large windows and face each other, and seats that can be flattened, with a large table and gentle partitions to provide adequate private space.
