The day after staying at a hotel in Ginza, which I had saved by using the “TADAIMA TOKYO PLUS” nationwide travel support program that started on October 20 in combination with the “Motto Tokyo” tourism promotion program for Tokyo residents, I wandered around Ginza to use the 3,000 yen worth of local coupons (→ previous article).
The number of stores and facilities where these coupons can be used can be checked on the official website or on the “region PAY” (Android/iOS) application for using electronic coupons, and as of October 21, there were 260 such stores and facilities. Considering the size of the metropolis of Tokyo, I honestly thought, “Wow, that’s all there are? I honestly feel that there are only 260 apps as of October 21, 2012.
Moreover, it seems that many places are not ready yet, and twice I was told “Sorry, we are still in the process of applying for the coupon,” when I actually went there, even though it was indicated on the map as a “store where you can use the coupon”. So, for the time being, it would be better to call the restaurant and check if the coupon is available or not.
So I called in advance to the store “Ginger in Ginza” (1-4-3 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) where I was told that coupons were OK. I decided to buy 2 bottles of syrup and 1 jam here and paid 2500 of my 3000 points with an electronic coupon. The store seemed to be new to me, and we were both nervous, but we successfully completed the coupon payment. The remaining 500 points will be used at another store.
Incidentally, payment for the difference between the price and the coupon can be made in cash or in conjunction with credit card or cashless payment if the store supports it (details are on page 3 of the official website’s “Frequently Asked Questions”).
Glancing at the map on the app again, I decided to use the remaining 500 points at a Doutor Coffee Shop that was just right in terms of price. This store is indicated with a red icon for “app only” support, so it appears that paper coupons cannot be used by those with paper coupons.
I asked the store employee in front of the cash register, “You can use the Tokyo Plus coupon right now, right?” He seemed to respond “Yes, you can use it” several times. When I was eating in the restaurant, I saw someone using a coupon for the area.
The app’s search function showed that “Giant Ferris Wheel of Diamonds and Flowers” and “SMALL WORLDS TOKYO” were listed as sightseeing facilities, “Tokyo Dome TICKET COUNTER” for sports games, and “Spa LaQua” and “Kimono rental wargo Tokyo Asakusa” as other coupon participating stores. and “Kimono rental wargo Tokyo Asakusa” were also listed as coupon participating stores.
If you are coming to Tokyo this fall from other prefectures on the “TADAIMA TOKYO PLUS” program, you may want to check out not only restaurants and souvenir stores, but also play spots. You may be able to use the facilities you were planning to visit♪.
