EcoFlow’s “RIVER 2” series of portable power supplies under 1000Wh, claiming to be the most powerful in terms of cost performance

EcoFlow Technology Japan will release the RIVER 2 series of portable power supplies in the 1000Wh or less class on or after October 25.

The company has been developing the RIVER series, which are products under 1000Wh, and the new RIVER 2 model uses lithium iron phosphate batteries. Compared to the previous model, which used a ternary lithium battery, the new model has a cycle life that lasts 80% or more in terms of capacity performance, from 800 cycles to 3000 cycles, resulting in a longer service life.

According to Xu Weibo, Marketing Manager of EcoFlow Japan, as portable power supplies become more popular, demand tends to increase for products with less than 1000Wh, which are inexpensive and easy to purchase. According to consumer intention surveys, high price, weight, bulkiness, and safety are the top barriers to purchasing portable power supplies, and the RIVER 2 series is aimed at solving these issues.

The lineup includes three products: “RIVER 2” with a capacity of 256Wh, “RIVER 2 Max” with 512Wh, and “RIVER 2 Pro” with 768Wh. Comparing the entry-level models, the former “RIVER” weighed 5 kg and was priced at 39,600 yen, while the “RIVER 2” weighed 3.5 kg and was priced at 29,900 yen, and the time required for a full charge has improved from 1.6 hours to 1 hour.

The RIVER 2 Max and RIVER 2 Pro are priced at 64,900 yen and 88,000 yen, respectively, a slight increase over the previous models.

Both models are equipped with X-Stream technology, which reduces the time it takes for the battery to go from 0% to 100% remaining power, and the X-Boost function, which adjusts the output voltage to connected devices so that devices requiring more power than rated output can be used.

In addition, the previous model had an arched handle on the top surface, but the new model has a simple handle on top of the back, and the top surface is now flat, allowing objects to be placed on top. According to the company, the new model has a load capacity of 80 kg, making it possible to sit on it instead of a chair when camping.

According to Xu, a special edition of RIVER 2 in collaboration with photographer and film director Mika Ninagawa will be available in November. He said that most users of the company’s products are men in their 30s, and the collaboration was planned because the company wanted to reach new users in their 20s and women. Details will be announced as soon as they are finalized.
