I visited the new domestic flight area at KIX T1. Commercial facilities have expanded to about 5 times the area, and ANA/JAL lounges have been integrated.

On October 26, Kansai Airport, the operator of Kansai International Airport, held an advance opening of the “New Domestic Flight Area” at Terminal 1, which is currently undergoing a large-scale renovation.

The renovation work is the first large-scale renovation since the opening of the port in 1994, and the grand opening, including the renovation of the international flight area, is scheduled for the spring of 2025, in time for the Osaka-Kansai Expo.

In the renovation of the newly opened domestic flight area, the domestic flight spots, which were located on the east side of the center of the terminal, were moved to the south side. The flow line has been reorganized by consolidating the departure gates for domestic flights, which had been divided into north and south, into a single location on the south side of the second floor.

Six smart lanes have been introduced at the security checkpoints in conjunction with the consolidation of the domestic departure gates. This will enable multiple people to go through security checkpoints at the same time, shortening waiting time at security checkpoints, easing congestion due to the consolidation, and facilitating smooth baggage screening.
