Okinawa Prefecture and the Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau (OCVB) are providing information on means of transportation that do not rely solely on rental cars on the “Okinawa Story” tourism information website.
In Okinawa, the mismatch between supply and demand is occurring as tourists are unable to book rental cars against a recovery in demand due to the reduction in the number of Corona-disaster car rental companies. In response, the prefecture and OCVB have introduced alternative modes of transportation such as monorails, buses, cabs, and bicycles, as well as model courses, and have prepared limited-edition accommodation plans that offer special benefits for not using a rental car.
As a result, the page was viewed 127,946 times from January to September 2022, with more than 95% of the viewers in their 20s to 40s and more than 80% of them being female. Not only during the Golden Week and summer seasons of 2022, when demand for rental cars was expected to increase, but also after the fall, viewing and reservations are continuing. In addition to the segment of people who actively use rental cars, there were also comments such as the information was effective for people who do not have a driver’s license or who have concerns about driving, and for those for whom not using a rental car is a hurdle to traveling to Okinawa.
