In Vietnam, heavy rains have caused numerous landslides in recent years, resulting in widespread economic and human suffering, especially in the northern mountainous regions. The Vietnamese government is considering the implementation of structural measures that contribute to risk assessment and risk reduction in order to shift from the conventional emergency response after a disaster to prevention and damage reduction in advance. This cooperation aims to strengthen the Vietnamese government’s organizational structure for landslide countermeasures through landslide risk assessment, development of landslide risk reduction plans (including consideration of priority countermeasure projects), and implementation of pilot measures in the northern mountainous areas.
