Izu Shaboten Park (1317-13 Tomido, Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture) announced the birth of five baby capybaras on October 16 and two baby red-faced tamarins on September 29.

Three baby capibaras were born in the “Capibara Open-air Bath Exhibit” and two in the “Capibara Rainbow Square. The babies in the open-air bath exhibit are growing well and usually spend most of their time with their mothers in the animal house inside the exhibit. From now on, they will gradually spend more time in the exhibit with their friends.

The babies are scheduled to make their bath debut at the “Original Capibara Open-air Bath,” a winter tradition in Izu that will start on November 19. The babies in the Rainbow Square are also growing well and will gradually make their debut in the petting area. Please note that you may not be able to see the babies due to their physical condition or weather conditions. In the petting area, two groups take turns spending time together, and there are times when the group with the babies is not out in the area.

The baby red-tailed marines were born in the “Wakuwaku Monkey House” on the first floor of “Touch de ZOO. The babies weighed 50 grams at birth, but have grown steadily and now weigh approximately 100 grams. Red-tailed tamarins have the habit of raising their young as a whole group. Therefore, for the next two months or so, we can see the babies clinging firmly to the backs of their fathers and siblings, a thread-like figure.
