Naoki Wakabayashi’s Travel Photo Gallery] Imperial Palace Inui-dori Avenue and Kitanomaru Park in Autumn (Tokyo, Japan)

Posted on 2022-11-062022-11-06 by Editor in Chief

The Spring and Autumn openings of the Imperial Palace to the public on Dry Street had been cancelled from the Spring and Autumn of 2020 and again in the Spring of 2022 in order to prevent the transmission of the new coronavirus. No decision has been made for this fall (as of the end of October).

The photo was taken on a pre-Corona visit. Entering through the Sakashimon gate, we walked toward the Kaimon gate. The first glimpse of Chouwa-den (one of the palace buildings of the Imperial Palace) is on the left, followed by the Imperial Household Agency building. The inner moat and stone walls provide a unique atmosphere along with the autumn leaves.

After exiting the gate, I also walked through Kitanomaru Park, which is just beyond the gate. It is a very nice park with beautiful autumn foliage for a stroll. Finally, when you exit the Tiananmen Gate near the Budokan, the course traverses straight through the Imperial Palace.

Inui-dori is usually open to the public for nine days in late November and early December, when the leaves are beautiful. Since fewer people visit on weekdays, please try to visit on a weekday when the weather is nice. Access is convenient as it is a short walk from Tokyo Station. It is also open to the public during the cherry blossom season, so you can look forward to that time of year as well.
