The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions (R/D) with the Government of the Republic of Uganda on November 11 in Kampala for the technical cooperation project “ICT Industry Promotion Project.
Uganda is an agricultural country where approximately 70% of the working population is engaged in agriculture, and is a landlocked country in East Africa with continued economic growth against a backdrop of population growth. However, the unemployment rate among young people is extremely high at 13.3%, making the promotion of industries that create new jobs a challenge.
This project will support the Ugandan government’s efforts to develop an environment for ICT industry promotion, foster ICT human resources, support private companies, and support entrepreneurship in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, and surrounding areas. The project also aims to promote Uganda’s ICT industry by supporting the building of networks with local industry associations, academic institutions, and foreign companies, and by forming a growth model for the ICT industry. Through this project, we will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 8 (both job satisfaction and economic growth) and Goal 9 (create a foundation for industry and technological innovation).
