On November 25, the Japan Tourism Agency announced that it will continue to implement measures to stimulate tourism demand throughout Japan after the new year, after assessing the future infection situation.
The discount rate will be revised to a flat rate of 20%, based on the existing “Nationwide Travel Support” system, in order to mitigate sudden fluctuations in travel demand. The maximum discount will be 5,000 yen per night for travel products using public transportation (rail, bus, cab, air, ferry, etc.) and 3,000 yen for other travel products (including day trips). As a general rule, local coupons that can be used to purchase souvenirs, etc., will be given as “electronic coupons” worth 2,000 yen on weekdays and 1,000 yen on weekends and holidays.
The current nationwide travel support program will continue until December 27 for overnight stays (check-out on December 28). We continue to encourage travelers to take basic infection control measures before leaving their homes.
