Traffic congestion forecast for the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway during the year-end and New Year’s holidays; December is the busiest month of the year, with traffic congestion tending to occur mainly on Fridays

Posted on 2022-11-27 by Editor in Chief

On November 25, the Metropolitan Expressway announced its traffic congestion forecast for December through the year-end and New Year holidays.

December is the most congested month of the year on the Metropolitan Expressway, especially on weekdays toward the end of the year. 2022 is also expected to see more congestion on weekdays from the middle of the year, especially on Fridays.

On the other hand, traffic congestion is expected to remain low at the beginning of the year, but both traffic volume and congestion tend to be high on January 2 in most years.

During the year-end and New Year holidays, traffic congestion is expected on the Wangan Line (eastbound and westbound) toward Kawasaki Ukishima JCT Aqua-Line (9:00-15:00), the Wangan Line (eastbound) Kasai Exit (6:00-11:00) and the Yokohane Line (downbound) Daishi Exit (6:00-17:00). For those traveling from Tokyo to Haneda Airport, we recommend using the Airport West Exit of the No. 1 Haneda Line.
