Traffic congestion peaks on Kanto Koshin expressways during the year-end and New Year holidays, including on December 29 and 30 for down expressways and on January 2 and 3 for up expressways. Upward on January 2 and 3.

NEXCO East Japan and NEXCO Chunichi have compiled a congestion forecast for expressways in the Kanto Koshin region and Shizuoka Prefecture during the year-end and New Year period (December 28 – January 4, 2023).

Traffic congestion in the downbound direction will occur mainly in the morning, peaking especially on December 29 and 30 and January 2, 2023. Traffic congestion in the uphill direction is expected to occur mainly during the daytime and nighttime, especially on January 2 and 3.

The number of traffic jams of 10 km or more is expected to be 29 for downbound and 69 for upbound traffic in the Tokyo metropolitan area, and 30 for downbound and 47 for upbound traffic in the NEXCO Central Japan service area. The company is urging customers to use the downstream route around December 29 and 30 and after January 3, while the upstream route should be used after January 4.

  • Forecasted traffic congestion on expressways during the year-end and New Year’s holidays, with many traffic jams on both the up and down lines on January 2. The longest is 40 km at Hadano Nakai Interchange on the Tomei off-ramp on December 29.
