On November 30, JICA President Akihiko Tanaka visited the Kyrgyz Republic’s
Meeting with Prime Minister Akilbek Japarov, Chairman of the Cabinet and Secretary of the Presidential Administration, at JICA headquarters.
President Tanaka noted that the OVOP project, launched in Issyk-Kul Oblast, Kyrgyzstan, with the cooperation of JICA, has led to the export of local Kyrgyz products to Japan, Europe, and the United States in cooperation with Japanese companies. He welcomed the project to be promoted as a national project by the Kyrgyz government.
Prime Minister Japarov spoke highly of JICA’s activities in Kyrgyzstan, and both sides exchanged views on cooperation in the areas of road infrastructure development, the OVOP approach, agriculture, energy, and medicine, as well as the current status and future prospects of the “Scholarship Program for Human Resources Development” for receiving foreign students through grant aid. They also exchanged opinions on the current status and future prospects of the “Human Resource Development Scholarship Plan,” a project to accept international students through grant aid.
