In rural areas of Laos, many elementary schools operated with financial support from the local community due to inadequate capacity and budget for educational administration. In response, the Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES) established Village Education Development Committees (VEDCs) in each village to encourage school improvement with community participation.
In this cooperation, we provided technical support for the introduction and implementation of a series of processes related to the formulation and implementation of school improvement plans (SDP), mainly VEDC, and achieved a dramatic improvement in the learning environment and educational indicators in the target schools. In addition, in collaboration with other donors, we supported the development of the School Quality Standards (EQS) stipulated by the Lao government.
