The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Government of the Republic of Zambia on December 8 in Lusaka for a grant of up to 1.59 billion yen for the “Rice Seed Production Field and Training Facility Development Project.
This project aims to strengthen the dissemination system of rice farming technology and the production capacity of certified seeds at the Mount Makuru and Mansa Research Institutes of the Zambia Agricultural Research Organization through the development of facilities and equipment for the dissemination of rice farming technology, and the construction of fields and irrigation facilities for the production of original seeds and certified seeds. This project is expected to increase rice production in Zambia and contribute to SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) Goal 2 (zero hunger).
