JR West announced that it will conduct a demonstration test of the “face recognition ticket gate” to be introduced at the Umekita underground entrance of Osaka Station (Umekita area), which is scheduled to open on March 18, 2023.
The face recognition ticket gate is a new ticketless authentication method that uses the face as the key. It was developed for the construction of next-generation transportation services that combine digital technology and real life. The new ticket gate installed at the Umekita underground entrance is an unprecedented walk-through ticket gate that allows passengers to enter and exit at the same time without a gate. The innovative design and staging that evokes the near future will allow visitors to experience a sense of excitement.
In addition to the introduction of the face recognition ticket gate at the opening of Osaka Station (Umekita area), a simple face recognition ticket gate will be installed at the East Exit ticket gate of Shin-Osaka Station, and ICOCA commuting pass holders will be invited to participate as monitors to experience seamless travel between Osaka Station and Shin-Osaka Station. More details will be announced around February 2023.
