In Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, the rapid increase in traffic demand due to population growth and economic growth is causing chronic traffic congestion and air pollution. Such serious traffic congestion deteriorates economic activities and the urban environment, and has become a major bottleneck in economic and social development. Under these circumstances, the government of Dhaka is planning to construct five mass rapid transit systems and two bus rapid transit systems as a public transportation network based on the “Revised Dhaka Urban Transportation Strategic Plan” developed with the support of the Japanese government.
In Dhaka, which is facing traffic congestion and environmental degradation due to rapid urbanization and increased traffic, this cooperation aims to develop an urban railroad (MRT Line 5 North) that connects east and west to form a public transportation network, thereby meeting the transportation demands of the Dhaka metropolitan area and contributing to economic development and improvement of the urban environment. This will contribute to the economic development and improvement of the urban environment.
