The implementation of national travel assistance has brought renewed attention to domestic travel.
JAL, which has bases throughout Japan, has been continuously implementing regional revitalization initiatives (currently the “JAL Furusato Project”). In August 2020, JAL launched the “JAL Furusato Ambassadors,” cabin crew members selected through an in-house recruitment process, who move to local communities to promote regional initiatives. In December of the same year, JAL appointed “JAL hometown supporters,” who are involved in regional revitalization while serving as flight attendants. The aim is to develop products and solve regional issues for hometowns and other regions with which they have connections, utilizing the knowledge they have accumulated as flight attendants.
We spoke with Ms. Masako Takase, JAL Furusato Ambassador for the Tohoku region, who is involved in the 30th anniversary events of the Sendai – Shin-Chitose route.
–What can you tell us about your initiatives?
On December 26, the Sendai – Shin-Chitose (Sapporo) route will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Thanks to the support of all passengers and residents of Natori City and Iwanuma City, where Sendai Airport is located, we have been able to celebrate this milestone. We have planned this commemorative event to express our gratitude and ask for your continued support in the future.
–How are you involved in this effort?
With Christmas and New Year’s holidays approaching, I am sure that everyone using the airport has a busy schedule. However, we wanted to express our gratitude for the support we have received so far, so we planned this event with members of the Tohoku Branch Office and Sendai Airport staff. I was in charge of the event, providing ideas and incorporating the essence of what only flight attendants can do.
–What are your future plans and prospects?
On December 26, the anniversary of JAL2905 (Sendai – New Chitose route), a ceremony will be held at the boarding gate prior to departure. Passengers will be seen off in the uniforms worn by cabin attendants at the time of the inaugural flight, and will be presented with commemorative gifts.
–What is your message to our readers?
There are many airport restaurants where you can enjoy delicious Miyagi cuisine. Some restaurants offer menus that use a variety of ingredients from the six Tohoku prefectures while enjoying a view of the plane, while others serve Miyagi’s famous “beef tongue! and passengers looking forward to the “Beef tongue!” can enjoy it in the arrival lobby, as well as other specialty dishes.
We will also continue to plan projects for the enjoyment of visitors to the airport. We hope you will visit the airport even when you are not traveling! We look forward to seeing you soon!
