The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed the Record of Discussions (R/D) with the Government of India on December 23, 2022, in Delhi, on the technical cooperation project “Japan-India Co-Creation Business Exchange Promotion Platform Development Project based on Management Development. The project is a technical cooperation project to establish a Japan-India co-creation business exchange platform based on management development.
However, the manufacturing sector’s share of GNP is 14% (World Bank, 2021), which is low among emerging economies, and the number of people it employs is only about 27 million (2020-2021, Ashoka University Economic Data Analysis Center, Ashoka University). In order to further strengthen its domestic manufacturing industry, the Indian government sees the restructuring of the global supply chain after the Corona disaster as an excellent opportunity to transform India into a global manufacturing hub, and to achieve this goal, the formation of business linkages with companies outside the country, including Japan, is becoming increasingly important.
This project aims to expand business collaboration between Japan and India in the industrial and academic fields by promoting exchanges between Japanese and Indian companies through business matching and networking events, promoting education for Indian students on entrepreneurship and business startups, and strengthening the operational capacity of support services such as business meetings on business promotion between Japan and India. The program aims to expand business collaboration between Japan and India in the industrial and academic fields. This will promote the development of an ecosystem that generates business innovation across India and contribute to the development of an inclusive Indian manufacturing industry, thereby contributing to SDG Goal 8 (both job satisfaction and economic growth) and Goal 9 (let’s create a foundation for industrial and technological innovation).
This project will be promoted as one of the initiatives under the Japan-India Industrial Competitiveness Partnership, which was agreed to be launched by the governments of Japan and India (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Ministry of Commerce and Industry) in December 2019.
