Seibu Railway announced that the “Ashigakubo icicles” created by local residents in Yokoze Town, Chichibu County, Saitama Prefecture, will soon be ready for viewing.

The museum will be open to the public from January 7 to February 23, with evening and nighttime lighting on Fridays, Saturdays, and holidays during the period. Admission is 400 yen for junior high school students and older and 200 yen for elementary school students. Admission for the light-up event is 500 yen for junior high school students and older and 300 yen for elementary school students.

Ashigakubo icicles are an ice art formed by local residents as a project to attract visitors during the severe winter season. About 160 volunteers living in the town are involved in the project from the preparation period to the operation. The water is taken from a stream upstream and sprayed through sprinklers and hose holes, and the icicles grow gradually as the dawn chill sets in. The icicles are 30 meters high and 200 meters wide, and can be enjoyed from various angles, such as looking down from above or looking up from below. In addition, since trains pass through the venue, visitors will be able to see a collaboration of icicles and trains.

Light-up viewing is by advance reservation only, except on Fridays. Seibu Line users only will be given numbered tickets to view the lights.
