In Cambodia, starting with the improvement of water supply in Phnom Penh, the Japanese government has supported this process through technical cooperation, grant aid, and paid financial cooperation. Specifically, water supply facilities (water treatment plants, distribution pipe networks, etc.) in Phnom Penh and eight major regional cities have been improved through grant aid, and the operation and maintenance management capacity has been strengthened through technical cooperation in collaboration with Kitakyushu City and others. However, further expansion of facilities was necessary to accommodate the growing urban population, and in order to increase water supply coverage in these eight cities and stabilize the medium- to long-term management of public water utilities, the waterworks in seven cities (excluding Svay Rieng) have been expanded or are currently being expanded with the support of the Japanese government and other organizations.
Under this cooperation, water intake facilities, water pipeline facilities, water purification facilities, and water transmission and distribution facilities will be constructed in the remaining city of Svay Rieng, thereby improving the ability to supply safe water and contributing to the improvement of the living environment for the residents of Svay Rieng.
