NEXCO East Japan is calling for self-restraint in unnecessary travel from January 23 to 26, as the area will be covered by one of the coldest waves of the season.
Very heavy snowfall is forecast, and there is a risk of heavy snowfall and poor visibility due to blizzard conditions over a wide area, including mountainous areas and plains, mainly on the Sea of Japan side from northern Japan to eastern Japan. As a result, expressways mainly on the Sea of Japan side from northern to eastern Japan may be closed for a wide area and for a long period of time.
It is anticipated that national highways parallel to the expressway will also be closed, necessitating wide-area detours. In the case of simultaneous road closures, it may not be possible to exit the expressway at the closed terminal IC, and a U-turn may be required.
